Rules & Stuff

Welcome to Pixel-Topia!!! A growing community and home for pixel art of all colors, shapes and sizes. Here's the rules and how to get started! :la:

:bulletgreen:How to join:
It's simple just click the join this group button! You don't have to be able to make pixel art to become a member, you can just be a fan. As a member you can submit art, earn extra faves and watches through our community. you will also have the opportunity to attend future contests set up for fans and artists alike.

:bulletgreen:How to submit art:
Only submit up to 5 a day. no gallery pouring please. To submit a piece, hit the contribute button and submit to the folder category that your art fits best. (We do accept some art that is not pixel as long as it is some form of a 2D sprite).
You can submit to any of the following folders except for "featured":

~Scenes and Scapes
~characters and animals
~Objects and Buildings
~Emotes
~Misc
~Dolls
~tutorials and bases
~icons and avatars
~Pixel Drawings

:bulletgreen:How work is accepted to gallery and featured:
Not everything is accepted into pixel-topia. Though we are very lenient on what we accept as pixel art, there is a bar we have to make and that is determined by our admins when reviewing a piece.
We do not accept "copies" of other peoples work. you can use other peoples work in your piece such as basses and reference images but you have to change it enough so that it is uniquely your own. Same thing goes with fan art, it must not be a copy of an already existing fan art picture in any way or it must be done in a style that is uniquely your own.

We will also accept more mature themes; nudity is accepted as long as there is a mature filter on the work. Please, no porn.

Works that are submitted to featured are chosen by us and cannot be submitted directly into the featured folder by the artist. At the end of every week, We will carefully evaluate all the work in our gallery folders and chose 3 of the best pieces to be submitted to featured.

Here are some key points to consider for successful artwork that goes "above and beyond".
Just like in a critique, we look for:

Vision – Does the artwork present or reflect a point of view, theme or idea?

Originality – Is the artwork fresh or new in its style, execution or approach? Is it something you haven’t seen before in its particular genre? Does it surprise you?

Technique – Was the artwork skillfully created? Does the artist exhibit advanced knowledge of the medium and/or bring special focus to the craft of the medium used.

Impact – Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions? Does it make you think? is it funny? Does it blow your mind? etc.

We judge fairly without any influence of personal preferences and because we are a relatively small group, we are a little more lenient on what gets into featured.

Almost everything is accepted into the gallery but if your work is not accepted into featured at the end of the week don't let it get you down. A lot of the people who make it into featured have been doing pixel art for a long time. Just keep trying, never slow down and follow the guidelines above for your next pieces. :)

*If you have questions or think we voted unfairly, please let us know.

:bulletgreen:Contests:

Here at Pixel-Topia, we are trying our best to provide community that not only helps members make new friends and earn notoriety, but also a fun and memorable environment. So to help that goal we will be having contests ranging from art contests to just fun contests that anyone can join. The contests are sponsored by :iconsoulfiresoftware: Soulfire Software game studios so I think you all will be pretty satisfied if not excited about the $prizes.
:winner:

The rules and details for contests will be announced when a contest is about to begin. We will notify you before every contest so be sure to check your in-box for any Pixel-Topia notifications. :D

I apologize for my recent absence, it is the end of my college semester and I am very swamped with work. I will be able to update regularly again after next week.
If your submission request expired, please resubmit it so I can review them to be added to our galleries. Again, I apologize for the lack of involvement these past couple weeks.

Since you apparently don't want to respond to my note, I thought I would make a similar comment here on the page so maybe I might get a reply.

You say you are fairly lenient with what you accept... and yet none of my spritework that I have been submitted has been accepted.

And what is worse, it hasn't been declined either; it just sits in "pending" until it expires.

If my spritework isn't good enough for your group, please just tell me, rather than letting it sit without an answer. I have submitted several of my pieces several times each and have not even gotten a response. I sent a note to the group with similar comments; no response.

I understand that you don't get on every day or whatever, but if you are having trouble keeping up with the submissions of the group, consider taking on another moderator to help?

Hey guys! I invite you to check out my spritework, and if you like it, to please come check out our Kickstarter page for our upcoming tactics dungeon crawler called "Auro." It's all hand-done pixel art and unlike any game you've played. Super fun, super pretty(at least I'll try to make it pretty) and you won't regret it!

It's the last day and we need all the support we can muster! Thanks very much.

My name is Rémi Vion, and I am gathering a team to share the future success of our soon to be IOS / Android game startup.

Are you an artist with overflowing motivation ?

Do you want to take part in this new adventure? Contact me, and let's speak: viamail: vion.remi@gmail.com, or via skype : remizounours (I'm French, and speak english fluently (I can speak spanish and russian to some level))
It's my first company, but I'm aware of difficulties we have to face and will keep calm and logical whatever happend.
First games are not going to be visually intensive, or huge, but aim to be fun, and untertaining Iphone games in the tradition of angry birds or cut the rope: 2D, shorts sessions, fun.
Many things such as creating a good visual identity, game design, picking right color tones, nice atmosphere are also on the todo list.

Money will be split generously among all intervenants in the project, and to be serious, this will include several third parties: application store, publisher (yes, we'll work with them until we get a famous name), super talented artist (you), 2 programmers (including me), and an assistant in charge of many small but necessary tasks.
We have the technical skills needed to code efficiently games. Until fame, you will be the highest pay of us all. 40/50 % of our incomes will be yours.

We want to target the larger audiance possible. No trash, or dark colors.
It might sounds simple, because you'll probably be asked in the beginning mainly to draw menu buttons, backgrounds, tiles, fun animated characters, but you'll be in charge of main artistic directions, so it's somewhat important.

Thanks for your attention, and waiting to hear about you.

Everithing is negociable.

Is this group still active? Because I submitted a piece a few days ago and I have yet to get an approval or denial.
